ABOUT THE STATUES

• The Buddha is seated on a beautiful lotus base and is in the bhumisparsa mudra or ground-touching position.
• The Buddha is requesting Gaya, mother earth, to witness his enlightenment by doing the earth-touching mudra with his right hand on his knee.
• His lengthy earlobes provide a nice framing for his face. He is covered on one shoulder by his winter robe.
• The Buddha had curly hair resembling a seashell, a third eye or urna on his forehead, long earlobes from wearing weighty gold earrings when he was a little boy’s prince and a thin smile of compassion on his lips.
